Installation at AIC of “Infantry with beast” by Jane Alexander (2008-10) evokes fascism with its menacing dog-like “humanimals” marching in formation… To the tune of “Rudolph/Reindeer”: “You know Bondi and Hegseth and RFK, Jr…” “Eyes RIGHT!” sounds about right.Trump’s Cabinet and ICE minions answer in the affirmative the long-unsolved philosophical question: “Can assholes have assholes?”A metaphorical erasure. On the walls of the very same gallery were vestiges of the last major exhibit featuring the works of Gustave Caillebotte. This image resonates because authoritarian states always work to destroy any “degenerate” art and culture that doesn’t suit its own needs or that challenges its authority.
Much of my career in radiology has been spent studying, with great fascination, the internal mechanisms of the human body. This blog is an effort to expand that view to the outside world and also to map my own experiences engaging with it.
