“The Masque of the Red Death”

“The Masque of the Red Death” is an Edgar Allan Poe short story from 1845. It seems that many of the themes from the 19th century are back in vogue, or perhaps they never went away. Napoleon has returned, yet again. As have the various infectious scourges (bacterial, viral, fungal, political). And also the overpromise of technological innovation. Plus arguments over voting rights, immigration and potable water. Oh, yes, and the rising chatter about civil war in America.
